A Winter Walk - January 17, 2011

Last year, we had snow.

This year we don't.

So last year we went for walks in the snow.

This year we can't... Not that I'm really complaining about it!

So these pictures are from last year... when we did have snow!

This is our friend, and former farm worker, Dougie... Last year he and his family went for walks with us in the snow, but this year he can't.

Dougie has since moved on to bigger and better pastures. He joined the Navy and is now in Texas going to school... there's no snow in Texas either. That is Dougies sister Estelle... she goes for walks too.

Dougie had snow shoes on... Webster was coveting his snow shoes.

So Dougie, not being stingy, let Webster use them.

Dougie helps Webster put them on.

Dougie and Estelles Mother is the walking ring leader. She is in the middle... sorta like Monkey in the middle, but not quite.

Hmmm...What is that speck on the path behind us?

Uh-oh... I think we have a soldier down

Really though... Webster needed to soldier down.

You see, he wasn't happy that we weren't feeling sorry for his young little legs being tired and we kept walking, leaving him in the dust... or... snow.

But we did wait for him to catch up... which was very motherly of me don't you think?

I don't seem to think wearing snow shoes makes walking any easier?

I think Dougie is checking the map to see where we are... and he is saying we are lost.

Just kidding, we weren't lost.

It is really awesome that our town has it's own forest with walking trails... I think all towns should have their own forests.

Wouldn't that be cool?

I like this picture of Webster that I took... he looks like he is sleeping... and he is so calm and quiet when he is sleeping.

 

That's why I really do like this picture.

Ahhh Nuts!

I hear Webster talking in the other room and I'm thinking... who's he talking to...
there's no one else here but me?? Then I hear him say ...
"Chew with your mouth closed you stupid squirrel"

Ah-haaa! So that's who he is talking to!

It would seem that the squirrels have come out of hibernating...

... and are looking for food.

And they are finding it at my birdfeeders!

Normally, I have zero tollerance for squirrels at my birdfeeders.

But this winter has been so bad that I can't help feeling sorry for them. They just can't get through all that frozen snow to their winter stashes of nuts!

So I 'let' them eat a few peanuts.

And I actually think that the cats don't mind the squirrels either.

Well... I had better go put out some more nuts, the natives are getting restless!

See, I do more than take out the trash!

So, our back deck hadn't been shoveled off since the first snow storm that we got at the beginning of January and I think because we are expecting our umpteenth one now it was in dire need to be cleaned off. I was actually even getting scared that it might just fall off with all the weight of the snow and ice that was on it!

And I usually take my trash out this way and toss it over the deck to the garbage cans below...

But the snow was so high I couldn't even set it on the deck!

Something definately needed to be done, Now!

So I waited until Malachi went to sleep then got the snow shovel, bundled myself up and prepared to do some shoveling.

When Webster saw me heading for the door he asked me 'where ya going?' after I told him he said okay I'll listen for a shriek or a scream. I just laughed and said "Thanks a lot Webster!!" And he said I'll listen for the shriek if the porch falls down and the scream is if you get stabbed by falling icicles! ROTFL!!

Well at that point I decided that I could use some help and handed the shovel over to Web and went out back to get the other shovel.

Clifford is so funny, he was playing with the empty jugs that I had thrown over the rail to put in the garbage.

He was having a blast chasing them as they slid across the ice.

Here are the deadly icicles waiting to impale me...

Pretty impressive eh?

Well, I decided I had better get back up there and help Webster...  it was becoming increasingly dangerous down here ... he started throwing 'stuff' at me!

We weren't able to get it completely cleaned off as Malachi woke up but it is a lot better!

I can at least take the trash out now!

Once upon a time...

in the not so distant past...

Stupid Winter... had to go and take all the color out of my picture!

It was just a little snow...

What's the big deal?

So we got a little snow...

It was a Nor'easter,

It's not like New England hasn't seen a Nor'easter before!

Alright,  maybe not everybody in New England has seen this much snow before... or at least gotten up close and personal with it, take Webster for instance...

this is the first time that he has been on the outside looking in and I have been on the inside looking out...

It's kinda nice from this perspective

And I, of course, wanted to capture these moments for posterity...

Well, Web wasn't too thrilled about my capturing this particular momentous occasion...

and went and reported me to the Farmer of the DELLs

I was told to stop harrassing the forced labourer volunteer worker and was not to take any more momentous pictures...

*sigh*

so I became the paparazzi and went incognito sneaky-o instead! hehehehe

And it is a good thing too!

Because as soon as my back was turned what happened?

I catch him sleeping on the job!

Com'on... get back to work!

Hehehehe

Boy... it's sure hard to find good workers now-a-days!
